…Leather Surgeons’ Founder Gerry Gallagher has been immersed in the art of leather craftsmanship. After many years spent mastering old-world bench skills under the guidance of the renowned Italian artisan Domenic Rivierlo, Gerry went on to formalize his education in pattern and sample making at FIT, solidifying his expertise.
In just a few short years, Gerry emerged as a trusted problem-solver within the handbag industry, assuming the helm of one of the world's most influential fashion houses' After-Sales Programs all while creating samples, launching collections, and troubleshooting designs for numerous brands.
Drawing from this wealth of knowledge, Gerry set out to create more than just a personal legacy in Leather Surgeons. Through years of shepherding luxury handbags through their entire lifecycle, from design to restoration, a philosophy was born, and along with it, a methodology of handbag restoration that surpasses the skills of any single individual.
It is this holistic perspective that forms the very foundation of Leather Surgeons—an unwavering belief that handbags transcend mere functionality to become pieces of art and history. The restoration of these treasures demands an approach steeped in artistry and reverence, mirroring the same passion and respect invested in their original creation.
Today, Gerry's profound legacy is shared by his two sons, Hunter and Cory, who, alongside their father and a select team of meticulously trained artisans, embody the Leather Surgeons philosophy.
